The process of getting her things from our cars to the room was painless...we just pulled up to our designated spot, were asked "what room #" and tons of people converged on our vehicles, pulling items out, and all managed to get to her room no problem! (so much easier then when we moved her sister in 5 years ago!)
Then the fun began...where to place the furniture pieces that made the most sense, most room, and were the most convenient?!!! (we cheated and looked at a couple other rooms that had not yet been moved into) Once the furniture was in place,
They are both settling in. The heartbreaking moment for this mom came when we were leaving Birmingham this morning (we had stayed there last evening after driving from Texas)...I had texted the "baby" to ask how she was (the first night the girls next door were SUPER LOUD)...the text I got back...I don't feel good, upset stomach, congested, feel miserable. This mom felt totally helpless. She had been complaining of her ears for a couple days. So, I told her she needed to go to the clinic. To which I got the "I don't want to" (cue tears and sniffles). To which mom had to suck it up and say, "GO!"
Her roommate was a doll and walked with her (she'd already been there during camp this summer). The doctor was super sweet. As most of you know she suffers from migraines, and while she didn't really have a bad headache, he felt the congestion was from a migraine...they had storms last night (her biggest trigger). He gave her instructions to take her usual meds and if not better make an appointment to see him Monday. She called soooo relieved. You see, he too suffers from migraines and TOTALLY GOT IT! His exact words to her when he first walked in to see her, "I expected to see at least 3-4 of you today after last nights storms!" This momma loves him already!
This mom is holding up pretty well. Thank God for cell phones and text messages. How did parents do it before???
We will settle into a new routine shortly, and it will all be good.

Her room is so cute! And how much of a blessing is it that her doctor understands her migraines?? That is awesome. I hope she is feeling better. Glad you are hanging in there!
For some reason this post made me teary. My kids are far from college age (my first is headed to kindergarten this year!) but it reminded me so much of my freshman year. I remember that feeling of excitement mixed with homesickness after my parents left me in my first dorm. I ended up having the best year of my life and my parents settled in their new routine. I was the baby too and left them with an empty nest! Hang in there!
Glad your daughter settled in nicely. That was nice of everyone to help unload the cars. I hope she's feeling better. Thankfully she has a doctor that understands her migraines. I bet that makes you rest easier.
I have one in college.. moved back home this summer to stay here and go to school. I have one hitting the high school in a few weeks and one hitting kindy this year too. This last one hitting kindy is NOT sitting well with me. I am not liking it at all. I know these last four years of school for my middle will be gone in a flash. That makes me sad. My baby girl will be off to school. I know my sweet little boy will grow up faster than the girls, already is. Thinking about it brings tears to my eyes.
I am glad the dr understands your daughter's migraines. A relief for you. Yes, good thing for technology today. :)
Hope she gets to feeling better soon!!!! Love the dorm though!
Lauren such a huge change! Their room is darling and it is so great that she will call Mom & Dad when she needs to!

I am fighting back a few tears while reading this post. Thakfully my son still has a few weeks until move in day!! The room looks adorable...looking forward to helping my son make his room fun and functional...as much as he will let me!!
I hope she feels better! Their room is adorable. Sounds like her roommate is great already.
Her room looks so cute! And more importantly, it sounds like she has a wonderful roommate. So glad her doctor was able to understand how she was feeling. I know that will certainly help you rest a little easier.
Welcome, welcome to the Baylor family! I am so glad the move-in team was helpful. I was in charge of moving in one of the guys' dorms so we didn't have quite as many things to carry inside ;) But really, Baylor has been such a blessing to me these past three years and I am thrilled to start my senior year in the morning. It truly is a family.
Tough, tough weekend for you! I just dropped my youngest off for her first ever sleep-away camp and I felt heartsick the entire drive home (she's 9 years old). Super-cute dorm room, by the way!!
baby! college! and here i am pouting about my oldest of to high school.
yes, thank God for texting and calls.
This brought back memories of my freshman year at college. I was attending a school out of state. Oh man, when my mom got on the plane to fly back to Texas...there were LOTS of tears shed (by both of us). We now look back on that time and just laugh. You are so right...thank goodness for cell phones and other technology. So much easier to keep in touch with our loved ones. I hope your daughter has a wonderful year. The dorm room looks so precious!

Her dorm room looks so nice and big...my daughters is like a bowling ally! What a relief to know the doctor at clinic gets it. I hope she is adjusting well and having a great time. Mine is doing good. If you don't already Skye do it really helped me to see her smiling face! But boy that was the hardest day of my life leaving her...I'm in a bit of a fog gonna take me awhile to find a routine! Hope you are adjusting!
love her room!! and sorry to hear that she had a rough night! so thankful to find a good dr. though. Has she been feeling better?
You made the room look like it was easy to pull together- I bet they are going to have so much fun in there! Lots of memories to come for sure. Thankfully, she has a good doctor for when she's not feeling good too.
Great idea to do the bookcase over the headboard like that! So smart. Much needed storage. I need to get colin one of those when I'm there :) Glad she went to the dr and is doing better now. I was always nervous to go alone too!
