We just returned home from Freshmen Orientation...whew...we (and she) survived. Met future roommate...highlight of trip, classes were selected (no 8am, thank goodness), ID was made, yearbook photo taken (be prepared), got lost-found our way (hey, part of being a freshie), attended endless dos and don'ts sessions, learned how NOT to crash your computer (back up EVERYTHING, especially that paper you've been working on til 3 am!!), when they say doing such-n-such will get you sent home...they mean it!, met tons of new friends (thank goodness for Facebook, won't be embarrassed when we can't remember names in August), and fell into bed exhausted each night! (at least Mom and Dad did, she was busy catching up with everyone on Facebook!!!)
Now the fun begins (well, mom thinks it's fun...she wishes it were done already, and dad...well, he's a guy...no further explanation needed) We spent the greater part of today at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond and the Container Store!!! Roomie's mom must have had the same idea, as the girls were texting each other from store to store comparing notes and complaining their mother's were CRAZY!!!
We did manage to get quite a bit checked off the list! I have learned this child is NOTHING like her sister. She had her own ideas, knew what she wanted and was picky. This one, INDECISIVE and could care less, truth be told!!! As long as she has her cell phone, computer, iPad, food (meal plan), and a cozy bed...she is a happy camper!
So, if I am a bit lax (or more lax than my usual sporadic posts) you will know I am torturing my child to choose between pink or blue towels! LOL
glad it went well!! I was walking though target the other day and saw and the dorm stuff - made me wish I could go back and pick out stuff from my room again (not that I want to go back to dorm living!) but the picking out things was so exciting!
ReplyDeleteDelighted yo are all getting sorted! i would love a day picking out all the bits! Have a nice weekend:)

Glad everything went well. Must have been a bittersweet moment for you and your husband as you watched your baby get ready for college.
ReplyDeleteLove that you were able to go with her and pick out stuff for her dorm room!!! What a blessing that is for BOTH of you!!! Glad it was a good time for you too!!
ReplyDeleteWow, seems so far away for me, but not really :) So wonderful you had a great time and can spend these moments with her.

Gosh I remember those days!! I did the exact same things when I started college. Tell her to savor the moments because they go by so quickly! I know you are one proud momma!
ReplyDeleteSo glad the orientation went well! And that's so amazing that your daughter hit it off well with the new roommate. :) And I would be like you, and think the shopping was the fun part. :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun is that? now your daughter is on to new experiences. A new chapter in her young life. I just found your blog and I am your newest follower. I hope you come for a visit.
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun! Now if she could just figure out how to survive the 100+ summers here! I remember at UT being so hot one day, I called my grandparents (who also lived in Austin) to complain. My grandpa said "Don't you know it was 112 today? No wonder you were so hot!"
ReplyDeleteYay! Oh my goodness I remember those days...glad it went well (for you both)! :)
ReplyDeleteLauren you are handling all of these big life changes so well!!I know how

ReplyDeleteSuch a fun and exciting time!!! I remember my mom and I on orientation day at A&M...if I recall we definitely got a workout walking all around campus and maybe getting turned around once or twice! :) If I could go back... I would! Hoping she enjoys every bit of her college days.
ReplyDeleteWow, Lauren! I know this will come sooner than I can ever imagine! What a good mom you are to do all of this with her. Good advice on no 8 a.m. classes :)
ReplyDeleteI am in the same boat at the end of August! Aak!
ReplyDeleteAwww how fun! I just loved going to college and all the prep that led into it! Such a fun adventure! :)
ReplyDeleteLauren, so is your daughter going to Texas!!? I'm in Texas...went to Texas Tech and now live in the DFW area. Reading through your post totally made my day! My little girl is 9 and I feel like I've only blinked twice...college!?!? Craziness!
ReplyDeleteCollege holds so many memories!!!
XO, Aimee
How fun Lauren! She is about to have some of her best years ahead. Sounds like you're doing your job by being lovingly described as "crazy"! :)
